Our Story

Hello My name is Toshia Jordan. I am married to Jamie and we have two children. In my individual walk, my role as wife and as mother,  the two things that has helped me the most is having access to sound Biblical truth and the support of a loving family. The Bible and Christian books have helped me understand some foundational truths that helped me on my journey. Sitting around the table for countless hours  with my family, encouraging and supporting each other helped lighten the load and inspired me to keep going. An avenue in which to sow Biblical seeds into my children was important to me as well . I cannot imagine doing life without God's Word, family support and the ability to sow Biblical seeds into my children.  It has been a desire to provide this same experience for others,  which birthed the passion for The Retreat. 

it was not until the news of Lifeway Christian Stores closing its brick and mortar stores that I began to realize how we could provide all of these much needed services to our community. In addition, the concern from the bookstore customers and the lack of alternatives made it an endeavor worth pursuing. We began to gain valuable information from the customers and employees on the needs and possibilities. I began working with local assistance on planning and began to spread the word of the need and my intentions through a Facebook page and many meetings with concerned customers, pastors, and other key influencers. I registered the business and began to raise money for the discounted store fixtures from Lifeway and other start-up business needs (i.e. landing page, P.O. Box, marketing material).  Individuals began to donate money, office furniture, used books, and their time when we have a location. We were able to obtain the majority of the store fixtures and office furniture we need.  As I met with customers, pastors, and other key influencers, The Retreat began to bloom into its current state of being a Christian gathering spot with a bookshop and coffee and tea bar that provides collaboration space and workshops, events and a prayer room. 

However, with COVID we had to pivot although we are still committed to our mission. We will have books and inspirational gifts at pop-up shops and online. We will also provide opportunities through educational sessions and virtual gatherings to encourage you to heal, grow, and transform. I am excited to see what He has planned.
